Considering Eloping? 3 things to know before saying "I Do"

You're engaged! Congrats! Now the fun part begins: the planning. It can be daunting to feel like there are endless choices of venue, dress, caterer, guest list, and on and on.... until finally the question arises, "should we elope?!"

As of the last few years (and only amplified by the pandemic) more and more couples are choosing to elope. The traditional definition of an elopement implies a hurried nature and lack of familial consent. But in the modern usage of the word, it doesn't require a road trip to Vegas or a costumed Elvis impersonator to accomplish an elopement. Below are three things to know before you jump in!

1) Intimate Wedding vs. Elopement: What's the difference?

An intimate wedding is a scaled back version of the more traditional (50-200 person) event. Also known as micro-weddings, intimate weddings are usually held with under 20 guests. An elopement, on the other hand, requires just two people (a witness and an officiant) to make it official. Elopement is all about the couple. There’s always the option to throw a reception party or meal after the ceremony, but most couples opt to make the entire experience intimate and about them. Add a Coordinator, a Photographer, and a Private Chef to complete the true wedding day experience.

2) Planning Past Pinterest: Professional Coordination for Events of Any Size

When planning any wedding (even a micro-wedding or elopement), there are endless budget categories and planning to consider. It can be overwhelming to plan a wedding or elopement, when you’re not sure quite what you need or where to start. Pinterest is great for ideas, but without prices or a next level background in wedding DIY projects, Pinterest Planning can lead to unrealistic expectations and blown budgets. That’s where a professional Coordinator comes in. For elopements specifically, your Coordinator will plan every detail of your stay and ensure that your first days as newlyweds are magical - no matter the size of the event.

3) Location, Location, Location!: Selecting the Perfect Venue for You

An elopement allows for couples to have a true say in where they exchange their vows. Whether City Hall or Seaside strikes your fancy, elopements can happen anywhere meaningful to you! Especially for an elopement, selecting the perfect space for both the ceremony and reception (for parties of two, too!) is a must. Consider the time of day and year of your event, length of travel, and meals & beverages before selecting the perfect spot!
